Starting clinical supervision is an exciting step toward becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but it's also natural to have questions about the process.
Below are answers to the questions I receive most often from LMSWs considering clinical supervision. If you don't see your question here, I'd be happy to discuss it during a consultation.
To become an LCSW in Texas, you'll need to complete the supervision and clinical experience required by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC), submit the required documentation, and successfully pass the ASWB Clinical Exam.
Throughout our time together, I'll guide you through the supervision process, help you stay on track with your requirements, and answer your questions along the way.
Texas currently requires LMSWs pursuing LCSW licensure to complete:
3,000 hours of supervised clinical practice
100 hours of clinical supervision
A minimum supervision period established by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC)
Because regulations can change, I always encourage supervisees to verify the latest requirements with the Board. I'll also help ensure your supervision remains compliant throughout the process.
My supervision groups typically meet twice each month for two-hour virtual sessions.
This schedule provides consistent support while helping supervisees steadily progress toward their supervision requirements.
Yes.
Texas permits board-compliant clinical supervision through secure audio and video technology.
I've been providing virtual supervision since 2017, allowing LMSWs across Texas to receive structured, interactive supervision without the need to travel.
Absolutely.
Although I'm based in Dallas, I work with LMSWs throughout Texas, including Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Waco, Tyler, Lubbock, El Paso, and many rural communities.
As long as your employment setting meets Texas Board requirements, we can complete your supervision virtually.
My supervision program is intentionally designed to help you become a stronger clinician—not simply complete your required supervision hours.
During supervision, we focus on:
Interactive DSM-5 case studies
Clinical case consultation
Diagnostic formulation
Treatment planning
Ethical decision-making
Documentation review
Professional identity development
Evidence-based interventions
Collaborative group learning
Preparation for the ASWB Clinical Exam
My goal is to help you become a confident, ethical, and independent clinical social worker.
Each session is interactive and discussion-based.
Depending on the group's needs, we may:
Review clinical cases
Discuss DSM-5 diagnoses
Explore ethical dilemmas
Review treatment plans
Strengthen documentation skills
Practice clinical reasoning
Share perspectives with fellow clinicians
Review evidence-based interventions
Every session is designed to encourage learning, reflection, and professional growth.
Group sizes are intentionally kept manageable to encourage meaningful discussion and allow every supervisee opportunities to participate, ask questions, and receive individualized feedback.
Yes.
Although supervision occurs in a group setting, I take time to understand each supervisee's professional goals, learning style, strengths, and areas for growth.
My goal is for every clinician to feel supported throughout the supervision journey.
Before beginning supervision, you'll typically need:
Professional résumé
Employer information
Job description
Clinical supervision paperwork
Other documents required by the Texas Board
During your consultation, I'll explain exactly what you'll need and guide you through the onboarding process.
Our consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other.
We'll discuss:
Your current role
Your career goals
Your supervision needs
Texas supervision requirements
My supervision approach
Any questions you have
If we're a good fit, we'll move forward with onboarding and your supervision plan.
Depending on availability and the timing of the group, you may be able to join an existing supervision group or be placed on the interest list for an upcoming cohort.
We'll discuss the best option during your consultation.
Yes.
Preparing for the ASWB Clinical Exam is an important part of my supervision program.
Supervisees receive structured support that includes:
Content review
Practice questions
Test-taking strategies
Mock examinations
Guidance throughout the preparation process
My goal is to help you feel confident and well prepared when it's time to take the exam.

I'd be happy to answer your questions and help you determine whether my supervision program is the right fit for your professional goals.
