How do I become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas?

An LMSW will have to obtain 3,000 clinical work hours (averaging at least 30 hours a week) and 100 supervision hours in no less than a 24 month period. After submitting these forms to the Board, you will be eligible to sit for the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) clinical exam to achieve your license. Please see below for a checklist of forms required when applying for your LCSW:

New or Reapplication for Licensed Clinical Social Worker

  • Application for licensure - Form A
  • Submit fee ($111.00)
  • Official college transcript verifying MSW from a CSWE accredited program
  • Proof of completion of Jurisprudence Exam
  • Social Work Employment history - Form I
  • Clinical Supervision Plan - Form III
  • Examination Security Information Form – Form VII
  • A copy of valid photo identification that identifies the applicant by legal first, middle, and last name, along with applicable suffixes (Sr., Jr., III, etc.)

How often do I have to meet with my Clinical Supervisor?

The board suggests meeting with your supervisor a minimum of 4 hours per month, and I break this up into two (2) hour sessions per month. At this rate, you will obtain your 100 hours in 2 years. The board will allow up to 10 hours of supervision per month.
